Dimensions: 5'6" x 7'8" (168 cm x 234 cm).
Circa: 1930.
This antique Afghan rug, circa 1930, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind tribal weaving with a beautifully faded palette and a classic field of repeating guls framed by multiple geometric borders. Its soft ivory ground, taupe and camel patterning, and finely drawn motifs give it an understated collector's character, while the hand-knotted construction and time-softened surface make it especially versatile in layered interiors. An ideal centerpiece for a living room, bedroom, or office.
Faded neutral tones of ivory, taupe, camel, brown, charcoal, and beige, with a ivory field.
Although Afghanistan shares its western border with Iran, its rugs share no similarities. It is intersected by Baluch, Uzbec and Turkmen weavers and so have a Central Asian influence. The weavers are tribal and nomadic and often use the “Gul” or elephants foot design. They come in deep madders and rusts with black outlining. They sometimes use greens, yellows and blue in the accent colors.
