This antique circa 1930 Shiraz rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian tribal carpet with a striking column of stepped medallions set against a softly aged field. Its geometric drawing, faded terra cotta and sky blue palette, and intricate border work give it the character collectors seek in hand-knotted village rugs. Shiraz is the capital city of Fars province in south western Iran and is major collection center for the regions tribal and village rugs. They are woven on a wool foundation with an asymmetrical knot, usually with medallions on a densely covered field of geometric and animal motifs.
