This antique Hamadan rug, circa 1920, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian village weaving with a dramatic stepped medallion set against a richly ornamented field. Its bold geometric tribal drawing, deep indigo and rust palette, and finely detailed border create the collector appeal that defines early Hamadan rugs. A striking hand-knotted accent for a living room, hallway, or office.
Muted warm tones of rust, indigo, taupe, ivory, crimson, navy, and camel, with a rust field.
Hamadan is a Kurdish city in north western Iran famed for its rug production. Numerous villages around the city produce rugs with their own design elements, all under the name Hamadan. They are woven on a cotton foundation, and are single wefted.
