Abadeh rugs are woven in the town of Abadeh in Fars province, south central Iran, on the road between Isfahan and Shiraz. Influenced by both the sophisticated court tradition of Isfahan and the bold tribal energy of the Qashqai, Abadeh rugs occupy a distinctive middle ground. They typically feature a central diamond medallion flanked by stylized birds, animals, and geometric motifs on a densely filled field, woven on a cotton foundation with a symmetrical knot and a medium pile.
Their palette tends toward rich reds, deep blues, and ivory, with strong outlining that gives each element crisp definition. Rugs from Abadeh are prized for their durability and their lively, balanced compositions — equally at home in a traditional or a collected, eclectic interior.
