This vintage Northwest Persian runner is a handmade, one-of-a-kind piece with a finely drawn all-over tribal design set against an ivory field. Its repeating geometric motifs, soft sky blue and sage accents, and rust-toned borders create a beautifully aged palette with strong decorative character and classic hand-knotted appeal. An ideal choice for a hallway, entryway, or narrow living space.
Faded neutral tones of ivory, rust, sky blue, sage, taupe, brown, and burgundy, with a ivory field.
Northwest Persian is a regional designation covering the broad arc of carpet-producing areas in Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, and the surrounding provinces of northwestern Iran — including Heriz, Serapi, Bakhshayesh, Karaje, and the many Kurdish and Shahsavan tribal weaving groups of the region. The area has been one of the most prolific and important sources of antique carpets in the world.
Northwest Persian rugs share a family resemblance: bold geometric or semi-geometric designs, strong natural dye palettes, and robust construction on wool or cotton foundations. The range of quality and style is enormous — from grand Serapi palace carpets to humble village runners — but all share a vitality and directness that makes them perennially compelling.
