Antique Sparta Area Rug (9' x 11')
Dimensions: 9'0" x 11'4" (274 cm x 345 cm).
Circa: 1920.
This antique Sparta rug, circa 1920, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind carpet distinguished by its bold cruciform medallion, spacious field, and dramatic navy border rooted in Anatolian design tradition. The hand-knotted composition pairs a softly faded ivory-beige ground with inky indigo patterning and stylized geometric-floral motifs, giving it the refined, collector-friendly character sought in early 20th-century village rugs. An ideal centerpiece for a living room, dining room, or office.
Faded neutral tones of ivory, navy, beige, taupe, slate, and charcoal, with a ivory field.

Sparta rugs are woven in the town of Isparta in south west Turkey. They produce rugs that are curvilinear in design with scrolling arabesques, leaves and flowers, usually in a softer palette and more often with central medallions and open fields but also use all over patterns. They are woven on a cotton foundation with an all wool pile.
