This vintage Afghan rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind carpet with a beautifully subdued tribal design and a softly timeworn palette. Its all-over geometric field, framed by a bold border of stepped diamond motifs, showcases the crisp drawing and decorative balance that make Afghan weavings so enduringly collectible. The muted tones and spacious patterning give it an easy versatility, making it an ideal choice for a living room, bedroom, or office.

Although Afghanistan shares its western border with Iran, its rugs share no similarities. It is intersected by Baluch, Uzbec and Turkmen weavers and so have a Central Asian influence. The weavers are tribal and nomadic and often use the “Gul” or elephants foot design. They come in deep madders and rusts with black outlining. They sometimes use greens, yellows and blue in the accent colors.
