Dimensions: 10'9" x 13'2" (328 cm x 401 cm).
Circa: 1930.
This antique Sparta rug, circa 1930, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind example of Greek weaving with a softly aged palette and refined classical ornament. Its open camel field is anchored by an elegant central medallion and framed by a richly drawn border, with delicate floral and geometric details rendered in faded brown and blue for a beautifully timeworn decorative presence. A versatile statement piece for a living room, dining room, or bedroom.
Faded warm tones of camel, taupe, brown, slate, ivory, and charcoal, with a camel field.
Sparta rugs are woven in the town of Isparta in south west Turkey. They produce rugs that are curvilinear in design with scrolling arabesques, leaves and flowers, usually in a softer palette and more often with central medallions and open fields but also use all over patterns. They are woven on a cotton foundation with an all wool pile.
