This antique Northwest Persian runner, circa 1930, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind rug with a striking tribal-geometric composition and beautifully aged character. Its stepped medallions, angular motifs, and layered border system are rendered in a softly faded palette that gives the hand-knotted design exceptional depth and decorative versatility. Northwest Persian is a regional designation covering the broad arc of carpet-producing areas in Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, and the surrounding provinces of northwestern Iran — including Heriz, Serapi, Bakhshayesh, Karaje, and the many Kurdish and Shahsavan tribal weaving groups of the region.
