Suzani are large hand-embroidered textiles produced by women of the Uzbek, Tajik, and Kazakh peoples of Central Asia. The word "suzani" means "needle" in Persian, and these extraordinary textiles were traditionally part of a bride's dowry — worked over years by the bride, her mother, and female relatives and presented at the wedding ceremony.

Classic suzani compositions feature bold, stylized sun discs, pomegranates, and large floral medallions on a plain cotton or silk ground, worked in silk embroidery thread in vivid reds, pinks, greens, and blues.
