Dimensions: 11'0" x 17'0" (335 cm x 518 cm).
This vintage Gabbe rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind statement piece with a softly variegated sage green field, stylized animal motifs, and a stepped ivory medallion. Its broad geometric border in ivory, sand, and indigo frames the open composition with distinctive tribal character and a beautifully time-softened surface. An ideal centerpiece for a living room, dining area, or bedroom.
Faded neutral tones of sage, ivory, sand, indigo, pale green, taupe, and cream, with a sage field.
Gabbe (also Gabbeh) rugs are woven by nomadic and semi-nomadic tribal women in the Zagros Mountains of southern Iran, primarily by the Qashqai and Luri tribes. The word "gabbeh" means "raw" or "unfinished" in Persian, reflecting the bold, improvisational aesthetic of these textiles — thick-piled, loosely knotted, and filled with naive figurative imagery: animals, people, trees, and abstract forms drawn directly from the weaver's imagination and daily life.
Their thick, soft pile, earthy natural dyes, and utterly original imagery have made Gabbeh rugs enormously popular since they were "discovered" by the Western market in the 1980s. They bring immediate warmth and personality to any interior.
