This antique circa 1920 Bibikabad rug is a hand-knotted Persian masterpiece with an elaborate ivory diamond medallion enclosing a powder blue floral axis, set against a richly detailed ebony field. Layered geometric and floral borders, finely articulated rosettes, and warm rust accents showcase the exceptional precision of its wool pile design. An ideal centerpiece for a living room, dining area, or grand entryway.
Muted neutral tones of ivory, taupe, ebony, powder blue, rust, charcoal, muted gold, and sienna, with a ebony field.
Bibikabad rugs are woven in a village in the Hamadan district of northwest Iran. They share many characteristics with other Hamadan-area rugs — single-wefted construction, cotton foundation, geometric designs — but are distinguished by their bold, spacious compositions and their unusually strong palette. Large-scale herati and medallion patterns are common, rendered with a directness that gives these village rugs considerable decorative presence.
Their robust construction and vibrant color make them excellent working rugs for high-traffic spaces, while their graphic quality appeals to collectors and designers looking for character-filled antique pieces.
