Dimensions: 10'9" x 18'0" (328 cm x 549 cm).
Circa: 1930.
This antique Persian Bibikabad rug, circa 1930, is a hand-knotted, one-of-a-kind carpet distinguished by its finely drawn all-over floral lattice and softly weathered ivory, taupe, and pale blue palette. A delicate central medallion and layered floral borders lend formal symmetry and exceptional decorative refinement to its expansive 10' x 18' format. An ideal centerpiece for a living room, dining area, or grand bedroom.
Faded neutral tones of taupe, ivory, pale blue, blue gray, charcoal, brown, and sage, with a taupe field.
Bibikabad rugs are woven in a village in the Hamadan district of northwest Iran. They share many characteristics with other Hamadan-area rugs — single-wefted construction, cotton foundation, geometric designs — but are distinguished by their bold, spacious compositions and their unusually strong palette. Large-scale herati and medallion patterns are common, rendered with a directness that gives these village rugs considerable decorative presence.
Their robust construction and vibrant color make them excellent working rugs for high-traffic spaces, while their graphic quality appeals to collectors and designers looking for character-filled antique pieces.
