Dimensions: 2'7" x 6'2" (79 cm x 188 cm).
Circa: 30.
Handmade and one-of-a-kind, this antique Gabbeh runner showcases a softly geometric tribal design in an airy ivory field with pale blue diamond medallions and camel toned borders. The elongated composition, stepped motifs, and quiet abrash give it the distinctive character collectors seek in Persian Gabbeh weaving, while its restrained palette makes it especially versatile. An ideal accent for a hallway, entryway, or bedroom.
Faded neutral tones of ivory, pale blue, camel, taupe, and brown, with a ivory field.
Gabbe (also Gabbeh) rugs are woven by nomadic and semi-nomadic tribal women in the Zagros Mountains of southern Iran, primarily by the Qashqai and Luri tribes. The word "gabbeh" means "raw" or "unfinished" in Persian, reflecting the bold, improvisational aesthetic of these textiles — thick-piled, loosely knotted, and filled with naive figurative imagery: animals, people, trees, and abstract forms drawn directly from the weaver's imagination and daily life.
Their thick, soft pile, earthy natural dyes, and utterly original imagery have made Gabbeh rugs enormously popular since they were "discovered" by the Western market in the 1980s. They bring immediate warmth and personality to any interior.
