Bibikabad rugs are woven in a village in the Hamadan district of northwest Iran. They share many characteristics with other Hamadan-area rugs — single-wefted construction, cotton foundation, geometric designs — but are distinguished by their bold, spacious compositions and their unusually strong palette. Large-scale herati and medallion patterns are common, rendered with a directness that gives these village rugs considerable decorative presence.
Their robust construction and vibrant color make them excellent working rugs for high-traffic spaces, while their graphic quality appeals to collectors and designers looking for character-filled antique pieces.
