This vintage Bidjar rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian carpet distinguished by its finely drawn all-over patterning and softly aged palette. The field layers muted blue, taupe, ivory, and charcoal tones into a dense, highly decorative composition framed by an intricate border, showcasing the refined craftsmanship and enduring character collectors prize in Bidjar weavings. An ideal foundation for a living room, dining room, or office.
Faded neutral tones of taupe, ivory, charcoal, slate, gold, sage, brown, and blue, with a taupe field.
Bidjar is a Kurdish town in northwestern Iran, renowned for producing what are often called the "iron rugs of Persia" — the heaviest, most densely woven and structurally rigid pile rugs in the world. The distinctive construction technique, in which the weft threads are hammered tightly into place during weaving, creates an almost board-like stiffness and an exceptionally dense pile that wears virtually indefinitely.
Bidjar designs include elaborate herati patterns, large floral medallions, and the distinctive "garden" or vase carpet format. Their palette tends toward deep jewel tones — rich madder reds, indigos, and ivory. Bidjar rugs are ideal for high-traffic areas and are among the most durable of all Oriental rugs.
