This antique Belouch runner, circa 1930, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind tribal weaving with a beautifully time-softened palette and an elegant elongated format. Its all-over repeating motif and narrow guard borders create a refined sense of rhythm, while the faded field and delicate geometric detailing give it the understated character collectors prize in early 20th-century rugs. An ideal choice for a hallway, entryway, or alongside a bed.
Faded neutral tones of taupe, ivory, dusty rose, beige, camel, and light brown, with a taupe field.
Belouch (also Baluch or Balochi) rugs are woven by the Baluch tribal confederacy spanning eastern Iran, western Afghanistan, and parts of Pakistan. Among the most immediate and expressive of all tribal rugs, they are made on horizontal ground looms using a wool foundation and a distinctive palette dominated by deep reds, rich browns, dark navy, and ivory — colors drawn from the natural dyes of the desert plateau.
Designs include prayer formats, repeating geometric field patterns, and stylized tree-of-life compositions, often finished with elaborate flatwoven kilim ends. Their rustic, heartfelt quality and superb natural dyes make them perennially popular with collectors and designers seeking authentic tribal character.
