This antique Mir rug, circa 1930, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian carpet distinguished by its finely drawn all-over lattice pattern and elegant, understated border suite. The pale ivory field and charcoal-brown motifs create a beautifully faded, collector-friendly palette that highlights its hand-knotted character and refined decorative versatility. Its restrained geometry and antique patina make it an ideal choice for a living room, bedroom, or office.
Faded neutral tones of ivory, charcoal, taupe, brown, cream, and sage, with a ivory field.
Mir rugs are woven in the Saraband district of west-central Iran, and their name is virtually synonymous with the "mir" pattern — a repeating field of small, curved boteh (teardrop or paisley) motifs arranged in offset diagonal rows on a rich red ground. This endlessly adaptable all-over design, which may derive from a stylized leaf or flame form, became one of the most widely imitated in the history of rug weaving.
Antique Mir-Saraband rugs are finely woven on a cotton foundation with the asymmetric knot. Their warm palette, precise drawing, and quietly rhythmic pattern make them enduringly versatile in traditional and transitional interiors.
