Antique Afghan Area Rug (3' x 7')
Dimensions: 3'8" x 7'0" (112 cm x 213 cm).
Circa: 1930.
This antique Afghan runner, circa 1930, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind tribal rug with a beautifully time-softened palette and a classic field of repeating gul-like geometric motifs. Its hand-knotted character, faded camel-toned ground, and layered border pattern give it the quiet depth and patina collectors prize in early Afghan weavings. An ideal accent for a hallway, entryway, or narrow bedroom space.
Faded warm tones of camel, taupe, brown, slate, and ivory, with a camel field.

Although Afghanistan shares its western border with Iran, its rugs share no similarities. It is intersected by Baluch, Uzbec and Turkmen weavers and so have a Central Asian influence. The weavers are tribal and nomadic and often use the “Gul” or elephants foot design. They come in deep madders and rusts with black outlining. They sometimes use greens, yellows and blue in the accent colors.
