This handmade, one-of-a-kind vintage Gabbeh runner showcases a luminous sky-blue field framed by a soft sage border with small geometric motifs, expressing the relaxed tribal character associated with Persian Gabbeh weaving. Its spacious composition is animated by stacked panel-like blocks in rust and olive, along with scattered symbolic accents that give the rug a highly collectible, artful presence. A distinctive decorative accent for a hallway, entryway, or narrow living space.
Faded cool tones of sky blue, sage, rust, olive, ivory, charcoal, and rose, with a blue field.
Gabbe (also Gabbeh) rugs are woven by nomadic and semi-nomadic tribal women in the Zagros Mountains of southern Iran, primarily by the Qashqai and Luri tribes. The word "gabbeh" means "raw" or "unfinished" in Persian, reflecting the bold, improvisational aesthetic of these textiles — thick-piled, loosely knotted, and filled with naive figurative imagery: animals, people, trees, and abstract forms drawn directly from the weaver's imagination and daily life.
Their thick, soft pile, earthy natural dyes, and utterly original imagery have made Gabbeh rugs enormously popular since they were "discovered" by the Western market in the 1980s. They bring immediate warmth and personality to any interior.
