This antique Farahan Sarouk rug, circa 1910, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian carpet distinguished by its richly drawn floral field and commanding central medallion. The terracotta-red ground is softened by age into a beautifully faded palette, while the intricate border and finely articulated botanical motifs showcase the refined craftsmanship collectors prize in early 20th-century Sarouk weaving. An elegant statement piece for a living room, dining room, or office.
Faded warm tones of rust, terracotta, ivory, slate, taupe, camel, charcoal, and sage, with a rust field.
Far Sarouk rugs (sometimes listed as "Farahan Sarouk") represent the earliest phase of Sarouk production, woven in the villages of the Arak region in the late nineteenth and very early twentieth century before the style shifted toward the heavier American Sarouk format. These early pieces retain the refined drawing and restrained palette of the Farahan tradition — typically featuring an all-over floral spray design or a central medallion on a rich red or ivory ground.
They are more delicate and less commercial than later Sarouks, and are prized by collectors for their elegance and historical importance.
