Dimensions: 7'7" x 10'0" (231 cm x 305 cm).
Circa: 1940.
This handmade, one-of-a-kind antique Afghan rug from circa 1940 showcases a classic tribal field of repeating gul motifs framed by an intricate border, all rendered in a beautifully time-softened palette. Its hand-knotted character and faded, collector-friendly patina give the geometric design exceptional depth and quiet sophistication. An elegant choice for a living room, bedroom, or office.
Faded neutral tones of taupe, beige, camel, ivory, and brown, with a beige field.
Although Afghanistan shares its western border with Iran, its rugs share no similarities. It is intersected by Baluch, Uzbec and Turkmen weavers and so have a Central Asian influence. The weavers are tribal and nomadic and often use the “Gul” or elephants foot design. They come in deep madders and rusts with black outlining. They sometimes use greens, yellows and blue in the accent colors.
