Dimensions: 2'9" x 4'9" (84 cm x 145 cm).
Vintage Persian Malayer rug, hand-knotted and one-of-a-kind, with a richly drawn geometric medallion design set against an earthy brown field. The stepped sky blue medallions, angular floral details, and vine-bordered frame give this small-format wool pile rug the distinctive balance of tribal character and refined village craftsmanship collectors seek. Its compact 2' x 4' size makes it especially well-suited for an entryway, hallway, or beside a bed.
Faded warm tones of brown, sky blue, rust, ivory, taupe, olive, and charcoal, with a brown field.
Malayer rugs are woven in and around the town of Malayer in western Iran, within the greater Hamadan district. Comprising over a hundred villages each with its own subtle design traditions, the Malayer region produces hand-knotted rugs on a cotton foundation using the symmetrical Turkish knot — finer and more tightly woven than most Hamadan work.
Malayer designs tend toward the geometric, with herati, mahi (fish), and stylized floral patterns rendered in a traditional palette of deep indigo, madder red, and ivory. Their precise drawing, durable construction, and handsome proportions make antique Malayer rugs a consistently sought-after choice for collectors and decorators alike.
