This antique Kashmir rug, circa 1930, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind textile distinguished by an elegant ivory field, a finely drawn floral medallion, and softly faded rose and sage detailing. Its intricate scrolling vines, palmettes, and layered floral borders create a refined, airy interpretation of classic Kashmiri design. An ideal centerpiece for a living room, dining area, or bedroom.
Faded neutral tones of ivory, sage, dusty rose, pale blue gray, taupe, warm brown, terracotta, and charcoal, with a ivory field.
Kashmir, the Himalayan valley in northern India, has a centuries-old tradition of producing extraordinarily fine textiles — from the famous pashmina shawls to intricately woven pile carpets. Kashmiri rugs are typically hand-knotted in silk or fine wool on a silk or cotton foundation, achieving very high knotting densities that allow for exceptional detail in the design.
Designs draw heavily on Persian classical models — medallion formats, garden compositions, arabesque scrolls — rendered in a palette of soft jewel tones. Their fineness and lustrous materials make Kashmiri rugs among the most luxurious in the world, equally suited to display as works of art and to use as floor coverings in formal spaces.
