Dimensions: 7'7" x 9'9" (231 cm x 297 cm).
Circa: 1930.
This handmade one-of-a-kind antique Afghan rug from circa 1930 showcases a classic tribal gul design in a beautifully time-softened palette. Its hand-knotted field is framed by multiple geometric borders, with an all-over arrangement of octagonal motifs that gives the piece strong graphic rhythm and understated decorative depth. The rug’s faded earth-tone coloration and age-worn character make it an elegant choice for a living room, bedroom, or office.
Faded neutral tones of taupe, beige, camel, ivory, and brown, with a beige field.

Although Afghanistan shares its western border with Iran, its rugs share no similarities. It is intersected by Baluch, Uzbec and Turkmen weavers and so have a Central Asian influence. The weavers are tribal and nomadic and often use the “Gul” or elephants foot design. They come in deep madders and rusts with black outlining. They sometimes use greens, yellows and blue in the accent colors.
