This antique Shiraz rug, circa 1930, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind tribal carpet distinguished by its striking compartment design and softly time-worn palette. The field is organized into repeating diamond medallion panels framed by a finely detailed border, showcasing the characterful geometry and artisanal variation collectors prize in hand-knotted Persian village rugs. Its muted earth tones and balanced pattern make it an ideal foundation for a living room, bedroom, or office.
Faded neutral tones of taupe, camel, slate, ivory, brown, and charcoal, with a taupe field.
Shiraz is the capital city of Fars province in south western Iran and is major collection center for the regions tribal and village rugs. They are woven on a wool foundation with an asymmetrical knot, usually with medallions on a densely covered field of geometric and animal motifs. One of the most well known tribes in the area are the Qashqai.
