This antique Afshar rug, circa 1910, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind tribal weaving distinguished by its lattice of hooked lozenges and softly time-worn palette. The hand-knotted design pairs terracotta and rust tones with pale blue and ivory accents, giving the geometric field and layered borders a refined, collector-friendly character. Its compact 4' x 5' format makes it an ideal accent for a bedroom, office, or entryway.
Faded warm tones of rust, terra cotta, pale blue, ivory, camel, taupe, and brown, with a rust field.
Afshar is a tribal group of people located in Southwest Iran, the Caucasian mountains, and Turkey. Most Afshari rugs are produced in village workshops in Southwest Iran. They are woven mostly on wool in a squarish format. The design usually features three center medallions surrounded by small geometric motifs where the use of botehs in the design is common.
