This vintage Khotan rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind piece distinguished by its elegant East Turkestan design vocabulary and finely balanced all-over patterning. The soft terra cotta field is layered with stylized pomegranate and lattice motifs, framed by multiple geometric borders that give the composition both structure and decorative depth. Its refined, collector-friendly palette and hand-knotted character make it an ideal centerpiece for a living room, bedroom, or office.

Khotan rugs are from the Chinese autonomous region of Xinjiang, Chinese Turkestan. These unique rugs made in the towns Khotan, Kashgar, and Yarkand are often referred to as Samarkand after the main trading town in the region. They have a combination of designs and being on the silk route have influences from their Chinese, Turkoman, and Turkish neighbors. Fretwork, cloud borders, trellis patterns, pomegranates and carnations all are incorporated into their designs. They are of long and relatively narrow size with simplistic and spacious designs.
