Circa: 1930.
This antique circa 1930 Mir rug is a hand-knotted, one-of-a-kind Persian carpet distinguished by its finely drawn all-over lattice of small boteh motifs across a soft blue field. An ivory multi-band border with delicate floral and geometric detailing frames the repeating design, creating an elegant balance of precision, patina, and restrained color. An ideal centerpiece for a living room, dining area, or bedroom.
Faded cool tones of blue, ivory, tan, rust, sage, charcoal, and cream, with a blue field.
Mir rugs are woven in the Saraband district of west-central Iran, and their name is virtually synonymous with the "mir" pattern — a repeating field of small, curved boteh (teardrop or paisley) motifs arranged in offset diagonal rows on a rich red ground. This endlessly adaptable all-over design, which may derive from a stylized leaf or flame form, became one of the most widely imitated in the history of rug weaving.
Antique Mir-Saraband rugs are finely woven on a cotton foundation with the asymmetric knot. Their warm palette, precise drawing, and quietly rhythmic pattern make them enduringly versatile in traditional and transitional interiors.
