This vintage Amritsar rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind corridor carpet with a refined all-over field framed by richly drawn borders. Its ivory ground is filled with repeating floral boteh motifs in navy, rust, and soft brown, while the deep brown border lends structure and a stately decorative presence associated with North Indian weaving. Handcrafted with collector-friendly character and elegant symmetry, it is an ideal choice for a hallway, gallery-like passage, or long entryway.
Muted warm tones of ivory, brown, navy, taupe, rust, and gold, with a ivory field.
Amritzar (also spelled Amritsar) is a city in the Punjab region of northern India that emerged as a significant carpet-weaving center in the late nineteenth century, producing fine rugs primarily for export to Europe and America. Amritzar rugs are closely related to Agra carpets in technique — woven on a cotton foundation with a Persian asymmetric knot — but tend toward softer, more pastel palettes and lighter, more airy field compositions.
Floral lattice, scrolling vine, and open medallion formats are common. Their supple handle, refined drawing, and gentle color make them perennial favorites for traditional and transitional interiors.
