This antique Afshar rug, circa 1920, is a hand-knotted Persian tribal carpet with a softly aged taupe field arranged in an orderly lattice of octagonal floral compartments. Its muted ivory, camel, charcoal, and faded blue-gray details are framed by geometric diamond borders, showcasing the refined repetition and tactile character prized in early 20th-century Afshar weaving. An ideal centerpiece for a living room, dining area, or bedroom.
Faded neutral tones of taupe, camel, ivory, charcoal, blue gray, ochre, and ebony, with a taupe field.
Afshar is a tribal group of people located in Southwest Iran, the Caucasian mountains, and Turkey. Most Afshari rugs are produced in village workshops in Southwest Iran. They are woven mostly on wool in a squarish format. The design usually features three center medallions surrounded by small geometric motifs where the use of botehs in the design is common.
