Circa: 1910.
This antique Karabagh runner, woven circa 1910, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind piece with a striking all-over floral design set against a dramatic dark field. Its richly detailed pattern, crisp border, and saturated palette of burgundy, ivory, olive, and rose showcase the refined decorative character that makes Caucasian rugs so collectible. An ideal centerpiece for a hallway, entryway, or long gallery space.
Muted warm tones of burgundy, ivory, black, olive, rose, gold, and taupe, with a black field.
Karabagh rugs are made in the south eastern Caucasus close to the Kazak district bordering North Eastern Iran. They have varied designs. Some derive from the classical 18th Century carpets, such as the large medallion format, and some are more formal French influence, related to the Aubusson and Savonnerie styles with their more realistic drawing. They are more often woven on a woolen foundation.
