Dimensions: 3'9" x 18'5" (114 cm x 561 cm).
Circa: 1920.
This antique Karabagh runner, woven in the Caucasus circa 1920, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind piece with a richly drawn all-over design set against a deep brown field. Its repeating medallion and floral motifs, framed by a narrow border and accented with rust, ivory, blush, and touches of blue, give the rug strong decorative presence and collector appeal. A striking hand-knotted antique runner with refined symmetry and dense patterning, it is especially well-suited for a hallway, entryway, or long gallery space.
Muted warm tones of brown, rust, ivory, rose, terra cotta, charcoal, and indigo, with a brown field.

Karabagh rugs are made in the south eastern Caucasus close to the Kazak district bordering North Eastern Iran. They have varied designs. Some derive from the classical 18th Century carpets, such as the large medallion format, and some are more formal French influence, related to the Aubusson and Savonnerie styles with their more realistic drawing. They are more often woven on a woolen foundation.
