This vintage Saraband rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian accent piece with a luminous sky-blue field and finely drawn floral ornament framed by a richly detailed border. Its hand-knotted character is expressed through elegant symmetry, scrolling vinery, and a warm palette of rust, ivory, and navy that gives the composition both collector appeal and decorative versatility. An ideal centerpiece for an entryway, hallway, or office.
Muted cool tones of sky blue, rust, ivory, navy, coral, camel, and rose, with a blue field.
Saraband rugs are woven in the Saraband district of Arak province in west-central Iran, and are perhaps best known for the "mir" or boteh field pattern — rows of small paisley-like teardrop forms — that has become one of the most widely recognized motifs in Oriental rug design. The boteh may represent a bent cypress tree, a flame, or a stylized leaf; its exact origin is debated.
Classic Saraband rugs feature this all-over boteh field on a rich red ground with a distinctive border composition. They are woven on a cotton foundation with the asymmetric knot and a medium pile. Their warm, rhythmic pattern and versatile palette have made them enduringly popular in traditional and transitional interiors.
