This antique Shiraz rug, circa 1920, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian tribal weaving distinguished by its column of stepped diamond medallions and richly drawn geometric motifs. Its time-softened palette of rust, camel, ivory, and brown gives the hand-knotted field a beautifully worn character, while the layered border and tribal ornament lend depth and collector appeal. An ideal choice for a living room, bedroom, or office.
Faded warm tones of brown, rust, camel, ivory, taupe, mahogany, and charcoal, with a brown field.
Shiraz is the capital city of Fars province in south western Iran and is major collection center for the regions tribal and village rugs. They are woven on a wool foundation with an asymmetrical knot, usually with medallions on a densely covered field of geometric and animal motifs. One of the most well known tribes in the area are the Qashqai.
