This vintage Khotan rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind pictorial weaving that captures a serene waterside landscape with remarkable decorative charm. Its open sky-blue field, boat-and-figure scene, bare trees, and architectural horizon create an artful composition framed by a warm rust border, showcasing the distinctive character collectors prize in East Turkestan rugs. An ideal statement piece for a living room, office, or bedroom.
Faded cool tones of sky blue, ivory, rust, brown, taupe, charcoal, and camel, with a blue field.
Khotan rugs are from the Chinese autonomous region of Xinjiang, Chinese Turkestan. These unique rugs made in the towns Khotan, Kashgar, and Yarkand are often referred to as Samarkand after the main trading town in the region. They have a combination of designs and being on the silk route have influences from their Chinese, Turkoman, and Turkish neighbors. Fretwork, cloud borders, trellis patterns, pomegranates and carnations all are incorporated into their designs.
