Dimensions: 3'4" x 9'5" (102 cm x 287 cm).
This vintage Saraband runner is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian weaving with a softly faded palette and an elegant all-over tree and vase design. The elongated field in blush rose, ivory, and muted blue is framed by a finely drawn border, showcasing the nuanced character and decorative depth collectors prize in hand-knotted village rugs. Its narrow 3' x 9' format makes it an ideal accent for a hallway, entryway, or kitchen.
Faded warm tones of ivory, blush, muted blue, taupe, sage, rose, and camel, with a blush field.
Saraband rugs are woven in the Saraband district of Arak province in west-central Iran, and are perhaps best known for the "mir" or boteh field pattern — rows of small paisley-like teardrop forms — that has become one of the most widely recognized motifs in Oriental rug design. The boteh may represent a bent cypress tree, a flame, or a stylized leaf; its exact origin is debated.
Classic Saraband rugs feature this all-over boteh field on a rich red ground with a distinctive border composition. They are woven on a cotton foundation with the asymmetric knot and a medium pile. Their warm, rhythmic pattern and versatile palette have made them enduringly popular in traditional and transitional interiors.
