This vintage Jijim rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind flatwoven piece with a striking tribal character and finely articulated geometric patterning throughout. Its dark charcoal and ivory palette is animated by subtle slate, taupe, and brown accents, while the all-over lattice of small motifs and bold stepped medallion forms give it strong graphic presence and collector appeal. Jijim is a flat weave. It is usually woven on a horizontal loom in a similar way as a Kilim, but where warps are grouped together, they often have brocaded embellishments. They were used as bed covers or curtains and are mostly found in northwest Iran, Turkey, and the Caucasus.
