This vintage Joshegan rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind piece distinguished by its finely drawn tribal geometry, stepped lozenge medallion, and delicate sky-blue accents against a softly faded taupe and ivory ground. Its intricate border work and small-scale symbolic motifs give it the character collectors seek in hand-knotted village rugs, while the gently aged palette makes it especially versatile in layered interiors. An ideal accent for a bedroom, entryway, or office.
Faded neutral tones of taupe, ivory, sky blue, beige, and brown, with a taupe field.
Joshaghan (also Joshegan) is a village in Isfahan province, central Iran, credited with originating the famous "Joshaghan" all-over repeat pattern — a bold diamond lattice enclosing stylized flowers — which became one of the most widely imitated designs in Persian carpet weaving. The pattern is believed to date to at least the seventeenth century.
Rugs woven in Joshaghan use a cotton foundation, asymmetric knotting, and a strong palette of deep red and indigo. They are woven with a medium pile and are prized both for their historical significance and for their handsome, enduring design.
