This antique circa 1930 Malayer rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian village weaving with a beautifully aged palette and a finely drawn all-over floral lattice set within a stepped cartouche field. Its soft ivory ground, faded rose and rust accents, and intricate border work create a refined, collector-friendly look that showcases the character of hand-knotted craftsmanship and time-softened decorative depth. Malayer rugs are woven in and around the town of Malayer in western Iran, within the greater Hamadan district. Comprising over a hundred villages each with its own subtle design traditions, the Malayer region produces hand-knotted rugs on a cotton foundation using the symmetrical Turkish knot — finer and more tightly woven than most Hamadan work.
