This antique Bidjar rug, circa 1930, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian piece distinguished by its softly faded palette and finely drawn traditional ornament. The central medallion, layered floral detailing, and framed border create an elegant, timeworn composition with collector appeal, while the low-contrast ivory and pale blue tones lend it a refined decorative versatility. An ideal accent for a bedroom, office, or entryway.
Faded neutral tones of ivory, pale blue, cream, taupe, sage, and beige, with a ivory field.
Bidjar is a Kurdish town in northwestern Iran, renowned for producing what are often called the "iron rugs of Persia" — the heaviest, most densely woven and structurally rigid pile rugs in the world. The distinctive construction technique, in which the weft threads are hammered tightly into place during weaving, creates an almost board-like stiffness and an exceptionally dense pile that wears virtually indefinitely.
Bidjar designs include elaborate herati patterns, large floral medallions, and the distinctive "garden" or vase carpet format. Their palette tends toward deep jewel tones — rich madder reds, indigos, and ivory. Bidjar rugs are ideal for high-traffic areas and are among the most durable of all Oriental rugs.
