This vintage Khotan runner is a handmade, one-of-a-kind textile with a softly weathered ivory and taupe palette. Its elongated field carries delicate floral, rosette, and vase-like motifs within a finely drawn scrolling border, creating the restrained elegance associated with East Turkestan design. An ideal accent for a hallway, entryway, or kitchen.
Faded neutral tones of ivory, taupe, beige, sage, gray brown, and olive, with a ivory field.
Khotan rugs are from the Chinese autonomous region of Xinjiang, Chinese Turkestan. These unique rugs made in the towns Khotan, Kashgar, and Yarkand are often referred to as Samarkand after the main trading town in the region. They have a combination of designs and being on the silk route have influences from their Chinese, Turkoman, and Turkish neighbors. Fretwork, cloud borders, trellis patterns, pomegranates and carnations all are incorporated into their designs.
