This antique Bidjar runner from Persia, circa 1930, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind carpet with a richly drawn all-over floral design framed by a finely detailed border. Its deep brown field and softly faded ivory, taupe, and muted olive accents create a refined, timeworn palette that highlights the precision of its hand-knotted craftsmanship and classic Persian decorative balance. An ideal choice for a hallway, entryway, or office.
Faded warm tones of brown, taupe, ivory, charcoal, olive, and beige, with a brown field.
Bidjar is a Kurdish town in northwestern Iran, renowned for producing what are often called the "iron rugs of Persia" — the heaviest, most densely woven and structurally rigid pile rugs in the world. The distinctive construction technique, in which the weft threads are hammered tightly into place during weaving, creates an almost board-like stiffness and an exceptionally dense pile that wears virtually indefinitely.
Bidjar designs include elaborate herati patterns, large floral medallions, and the distinctive "garden" or vase carpet format. Their palette tends toward deep jewel tones — rich madder reds, indigos, and ivory. Bidjar rugs are ideal for high-traffic areas and are among the most durable of all Oriental rugs.
