Polonaise (also "Polish") rugs are a magnificent group of seventeenth-century Persian silk and metallic thread carpets, woven in the royal workshops of Isfahan during the reign of Shah Abbas I and his successors, and presented as lavish diplomatic gifts to the crowned heads of Europe. Their name derives from a misattribution to Poland, where many were seen in royal collections, but they are entirely Persian in origin.

Characterized by their lustrous silk pile, interwoven gold and silver metallic thread, and elegant, spaciously drawn floral compositions on ivory or soft colored grounds, Polonaise rugs represent one of the supreme achievements of the Persian weaving tradition.
