Dimensions: 3'6" x 11'3" (107 cm x 343 cm).
Circa: 1920.
This handmade, one-of-a-kind antique Northwest Persian runner from circa 1920 showcases a striking tribal geometric design with a sequence of hooked diamond medallions set against a deep navy field. Its hand-knotted character is expressed through crisp border work, ivory-accented motifs, and richly contrasting rust and blue tones that give the long format exceptional visual rhythm and collector appeal. An ideal centerpiece for a hallway, entryway, or narrow living space.
Muted cool tones of navy, ivory, rust, indigo, rose, sky blue, and burgundy, with a navy field.
Northwest Persian is a regional designation covering the broad arc of carpet-producing areas in Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, and the surrounding provinces of northwestern Iran — including Heriz, Serapi, Bakhshayesh, Karaje, and the many Kurdish and Shahsavan tribal weaving groups of the region. The area has been one of the most prolific and important sources of antique carpets in the world.
Northwest Persian rugs share a family resemblance: bold geometric or semi-geometric designs, strong natural dye palettes, and robust construction on wool or cotton foundations. The range of quality and style is enormous — from grand Serapi palace carpets to humble village runners — but all share a vitality and directness that makes them perennially compelling.
