This antique Varamin rug, circa 1930, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian village weaving distinguished by its luminous cobalt-blue field and finely drawn all-over lattice of rosettes and stylized floral motifs. The hand-knotted design is framed by a richly detailed rust border that heightens the contrast and showcases the rug’s crisp geometry, balanced symmetry, and collector-worthy decorative presence. Its vivid palette and elegant all-over pattern make it an ideal centerpiece for a living room, bedroom, or office.
Vibrant warm tones of cobalt, rust, ivory, navy, sage, burgundy, camel, and teal, with a blue field.
Varamin is a town southeast of Tehran in central Iran, producing rugs distinguished by the famous "mina khani" design — an all-over repeat pattern of large floral rosettes connected by delicate vine scrolls, creating a rhythmic, endlessly repeating lattice of great elegance. The mina khani pattern is closely associated with Varamin and is among the most beautiful of all Persian repeat designs.
Varamin rugs are woven on a cotton foundation with an asymmetric knot and a medium pile. Their palette tends toward rich dark blues and deep reds with ivory and green accents. Their elegant, restrained pattern makes them versatile in both traditional and contemporary settings.
