Dimensions: 2'9" x 4'9" (84 cm x 145 cm).
Circa: 20.
Antique Belouch rug, circa 1920, hand-knotted and one-of-a-kind, with a richly geometric tribal design framed by bold stepped borders. The warm rust field is enlivened by pale blue latticework and stacked diamond medallions, creating crisp contrast and the compact, graphic character collectors prize in Belouch weavings. Its small scale and strong visual structure make it an ideal accent for an entryway, hallway, or office.
Muted warm tones of rust, pale blue, camel, dark brown, ivory, and charcoal, with a rust field.
Belouch (also Baluch or Balochi) rugs are woven by the Baluch tribal confederacy spanning eastern Iran, western Afghanistan, and parts of Pakistan. Among the most immediate and expressive of all tribal rugs, they are made on horizontal ground looms using a wool foundation and a distinctive palette dominated by deep reds, rich browns, dark navy, and ivory — colors drawn from the natural dyes of the desert plateau.
Designs include prayer formats, repeating geometric field patterns, and stylized tree-of-life compositions, often finished with elaborate flatwoven kilim ends. Their rustic, heartfelt quality and superb natural dyes make them perennially popular with collectors and designers seeking authentic tribal character.
