This handmade one-of-a-kind vintage Belouch rug showcases a distinctive pictorial prayer design with architectural motifs, rendered in a softly aged palette that collectors prize. Its finely detailed border work, geometric accents, and faded field create an evocative tribal composition with strong decorative character. A versatile small-format accent rug, it is especially well-suited for an entryway, hallway, or office.
Faded neutral tones of taupe, camel, brown, ivory, and sage, with a taupe field.
Belouch (also Baluch or Balochi) rugs are woven by the Baluch tribal confederacy spanning eastern Iran, western Afghanistan, and parts of Pakistan. Among the most immediate and expressive of all tribal rugs, they are made on horizontal ground looms using a wool foundation and a distinctive palette dominated by deep reds, rich browns, dark navy, and ivory — colors drawn from the natural dyes of the desert plateau.
Designs include prayer formats, repeating geometric field patterns, and stylized tree-of-life compositions, often finished with elaborate flatwoven kilim ends. Their rustic, heartfelt quality and superb natural dyes make them perennially popular with collectors and designers seeking authentic tribal character.
