Aubusson is a town in the Creuse region of central France with a weaving tradition stretching back to the fifteenth century. French royal patronage in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries elevated Aubusson to international prominence, producing both flat-woven tapestries and pile carpets of exceptional refinement for the palaces and châteaux of Europe.
Classic Aubusson carpets feature central floral medallions, delicate bouquets, and scrolling acanthus borders on soft rose, ivory, or powder-blue grounds — a palette that reads as distinctly French. Flat-woven Aubussons in particular have enjoyed enduring popularity for their elegant lightness and their ability to anchor a room without overpowering it. Both pile and flatweave examples are timeless in transitional and formal classical interiors.
