This antique Karabagh rug, circa 1900, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Caucasian runner distinguished by its richly drawn all-over lattice of geometric floral motifs set against a deep navy field. The terracotta border, crisp ivory accents, and light blue highlights create striking contrast, while the hand-knotted patterning gives the piece exceptional visual rhythm and collector appeal. An ideal centerpiece for a hallway, entryway, or living room.
Muted warm tones of navy, terra cotta, ivory, light blue, rust, brown, and camel, with a navy field.
Karabagh rugs are made in the south eastern Caucasus close to the Kazak district bordering North Eastern Iran. They have varied designs. Some derive from the classical 18th Century carpets, such as the large medallion format, and some are more formal French influence, related to the Aubusson and Savonnerie styles with their more realistic drawing. They are more often woven on a woolen foundation.
